Shots fired during clash in Jamalpur

  • 12 injured in two clashes
  • ‘Situation is normal now’

At least 12 people were injured in separate clashes between the activists of Awami League candidate and independent candidate in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur on Sunday.

The supporters of Awami League candidate Mahbubur Rahman Helal and Principal Abdur Rashid locked into a clash at Char Adra Government Primary school at 10:30am.

Police opened five round bullets in the air to bring the situation.

Mushfiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari police station, confirmed the matter. 

At least 10 people were injured in the clash. 

Meanwhile, another clash took place at Bolardiar Government Primary School polling centre of the Sarishabari municipality around 11am.

Two polling agents of Boat were injured in the clash.

The injured are Mominul Islam and Ramjan Ali. Among the injured was admitted to upazila health complex as a critical condition.

Arifur Rahman, presiding officer of the polling station, said that a tense situation arose from the altercation between the agents of the Truck and Boat candidates. 

However, the situation is normal now, said the presiding officer.
