Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD) President and Awami League nominated candidate for the Kushtia-2 constituency Hasanul Haq Inu has alleged that he was defeated in the election due to vote rigging.
"I was defeated by rigged votes, not by the people's vote. I hope everyone will investigate this matter and rectify it," he said after a post-election meeting with party workers in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The JaSoD president further said: "The voting was free and fair across the country, but sadly, the terror spread by my rival candidate just a week before the election was unstoppable."
“Voting irregularities were observed in 18 centres out of 161 on the election day, which was done through vote rigging. Despite protests and repeated attempts to bring the matter to the attention of the authorities, administration officials have failed to take effective action,” Inu added.
Regarding the alliance, the JaSoD president said: "There will be no political impact on the alliance. However, the confusion and controversy that has arisen among the alliance partners over the election must be settled. At the same time, the attack, threats and torture of the goons of the rival Awami League turned independent candidate must be stopped. Otherwise, there will be no conducive environment within the alliance."
In the 12th national parliamentary election, JaSoD President Hasanul Haq Inu who contested from Kushtia-2 seat with the Awami League’s electoral symbol Boat got 92,445 votes. Kamarul Arefin, an independent candidate with the Truck symbol, was elected with 115,799 votes.
