The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed special traffic restrictions in and around Bangabhaban ahead of the newly elected president’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for 7:30pm on Friday.
The restrictions will remain in effect from 3pm to 9pm on Friday, according to a public notice issued on Thursday and signed by Motijheel Traffic Division Deputy Commissioner Md Amir Khosru.
The ceremony will be attended by the outgoing president, newly elected president, prime minister, speaker, chief justice, former presidents, cabinet members, diplomats, senior government officials and other dignitaries.
To facilitate the movement of vehicles carrying the guests, the DMP has asked motorists to follow designated routes. The restrictions will not apply to vehicles carrying invited guests.
Under the traffic plan, all vehicles will be barred from entering the road from Aliko Gap at Motijheel Shapla Chattar to the Dilkusha commercial area via Bangabhaban Road and Rajuk Crossing on DIT Road.
Buses travelling from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk and Gulistan will be diverted through Dainik Bangla, UBL and Press Club. They may also use other convenient alternative routes if necessary.
Commercial vehicles travelling from Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk will not be allowed.
Vehicles coming from Hanif Flyover have been instructed not to make a U-turn at Zero Point. Instead, they should turn left towards Fulbaria or right via UBL Crossing before proceeding towards Dainik Bangla and Shapla Chattar.
Motorists may alternatively use the Zero Point–UBL Crossing–Nightingale Crossing–Fakirapul Crossing–Shapla Chattar–Ittefaq route.
The DMP warned that the temporary traffic measures may cause disruptions in vehicle movement on the affected roads and surrounding areas. It apologised for the inconvenience and urged commuters to follow the instructions and avoid the affected roads where possible.
