Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat on Friday said the interim government caused significant damage to the country during its 18-month tenure, in addition to the damage caused by the previous “fascist” government over 17 years.
He also alleged that the interim government made various attempts to prevent elections and keep the country unstable. A group affiliated with a political party, which he described as a “bot bahini”, was spreading misinformation, the minister claimed, calling for journalists’ cooperation in countering the disinformation.
The civil aviation minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a tree fair and a reception ceremony at the Bakshiganj Upazila Parishad auditorium in Jamalpur. The event was organised by the upazila administration, agriculture office and social services office.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Murad Hossain chaired the programme, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Aminul Islam delivered the welcome address.
Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police of Dewanganj Circle Junaid Afrad, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asma Ul Husna, Officer-in-Charge Makbul Hossain, Upazila BNP President Manik Sowdagar, General Secretary Zahidul Islam Prince, central Chhatra Dal Vice-President Shajahan Shawon and Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal Convener Ashikur Rahman also spoke at the event.
During the programme, government assistance was provided to various Durga Puja mandaps, and fire extinguishers were distributed. Tree saplings were planted, while cheques from the prime minister’s relief fund were handed out to underprivileged people.
Cheques were also distributed among people affected by fires and other disasters. Students from ethnic minority communities received financial assistance for their education.
