Rajshahi-1 independent candidate and Dhallywood actor Sharmin Akhter Nipa, popularly known as Mahiya Mahi, said that despite whatever outcome from the polls on Monday, she will give a showdown to the region.

“A festive atmosphere is going on in the area around the polling. The administration is very active. Voting is taking place in a beautiful and fair environment,” Mahiya Mahi said during her visit to Mundumala Government Primary School centre in Tanor upazila around 10am on Sunday.

Contesting under the Truck symbol, Mahiya Mahi ensured the presence of agents in every centre. While acknowledging some minor delays in a few places, she emphasized that overall, the situation was satisfactory.

This being her first election, Mahiya Mahi acknowledged that she might not operate as smoothly as seasoned politicians but expressed confidence in the overall positive scenario.

Mahiya Mahi said that pass or fail was not a big concern for her at the moment. She shared her experiences of getting close to the people, receiving blessings from the elderly, and visiting remote areas to connect with the residents.

She expressed a willingness to help them on a larger scale if given the opportunity, or even on a personal initiative if not elected.

Reflecting on the learning from the election campaign, Mahiya Mahi emphasized the significance of five years to establish connections with people. Despite a shorter campaign period, she believed that reaching a considerable number of people was possible.

She observed a higher presence of women in the polling stations and noted a growing enthusiasm among women to cast their votes.

Mahiya Mahi expressed expectations from the administration for a fair electoral process, urging a strong response to any disruptions after polling hours. She particularly emphasized the crucial period between 3pm and 4pm and hoped for strong measures to maintain order during that time.
