Update : 07 Jan 2024, 03:22 PM

Local Awami League leaders under Bogra-6 constituency on Sunday alleged that the supporters of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are intimidating voters to prevent them from exercising their franchise at the Rajapur Union Parishad Complex centre.

Presiding Officer Azizul Aman said such incidents might have taken place outside the polling station.

On-duty police officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam said they had no such information.

Rajapur Union Awami League Vice President Siafat said a good number of Jamaat supporters took positions with sticks on Second Bypass Road and tried to prevent voters from going to the polling centres. Due to the chaos, voting at the centre remained suspended for an hour.

Locals alleged that the BNP-Jamaat supporters were also visiting different houses and asking people not to go to the polling centres.

A voter named Abul Kalam Azad from Khamarkandi village said he was prevented by BNP activists Shahin and Rafiqul and Jamaat’s Sumon while going to the polling centre along with his mother.

“They threatened us with consequences. They left the place after a patrol team of the Border Guard Bangladesh reached the spot,” he added.
