The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the gruesome murder of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata.
The committee was formed on Friday.
It will be headed by an officer of Inspector General rank and will include three deputy inspection generals (DIGs). They will be helped by 10-12 other police officers, according to sources.
Meanwhile, the search for the MP's body parts continued as officers of West Bengal CID and detectives of Dhaka Metropolitan Police grilled the arrested butcher, Jihad Howladar, to get more details about the crime.
Besides, the CID will conduct a DNA test to find out whether the 4kgs of flesh recovered from the septic tank belongs to MP Anar.
Samples will be collected from Anar’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin. The investigation officers are awaiting the forensic report.
Dorin is set to go to Kolkata for a DNA test to confirm whether the recovered flesh belongs to her father or not.
Meanwhile, a lookout notice has already been issued against the mastermind of the murder. According to sources, the process of issuing red corner notices has also started.
The West Bengal CID is also examining the CCTV cameras installed along the routes, including Keshtopur canal, suspected to have been taken by the assailants in disposing of Azim's clothes.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Friday placed three accused on five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Anar in Kolkata, India.
The three accused are Tanvir Bhuiyan, Shimul Bhuiyan and Silisti Rahman.
On May 24, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi placed them on eight-day remand.
The victim's daughter Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin filed the case on May 22 with the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
The Jhenaidah-4 MP crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The following day, he left to see a doctor at noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas stated that he went to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.
Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
