Probe committee formed over bus plunging into Padma river at Daulatdia ferry ghat

The committee has been tasked with investigating the cause of the accident, fixes responsibility and recommends steps to prevent similar incidents.

The Ministry of Shipping has formed an investigation committee to determine the cause of a bus accident at Daulatdia ferry ghat in Rajbari.

The incident occurred on Friday at Daulatdia ferry terminal in Goalanda upazila when a bus named SB Super Deluxe Paribahan lost control and fell into the Padma River from a pontoon while boarding ferry Karabi.

According to the ministry, no casualties were reported as passengers had been asked to disembark before the bus boarded the ferry, in line with safety measures directed by the Ministry of Shipping.

Under the ministry’s order, Joint Secretary Mohammad Rafiqul Karim will serve as the convener of the probe committee. One representative each from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will serve as members.

Senior Assistant Secretary Md Zakir Hossain, of the Ministry of Shipping has been appointed member secretary of the committee.

The committee has been tasked with investigating the cause of the accident, determining responsibility, recommending remedial measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and providing opinions on related matters.

It has also been authorized to co-opt additional members if necessary and seek assistance from relevant individuals or organizations. The committee has been instructed to submit its report to the Ministry of Shipping within seven working days.
