Saidul Karim Mintu, general secretary of Jhenaidah Awami League and one of the masterminds behind the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, had promised payment after the job was completed.
In a report submitted to the court on Sunday, investigation officer mentioned that he made this promise while talking to Aktaruzzaman Shahin on WhatsApp in early May.
The investigating officer and Senior Assistant Commissioner of the Detective Branch of Police, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, presented Mintu to the court after an eight-day remand, following which the court sent him to jail.
The report also said that on June 5, Amanulla alias Shimul Bhuiyan, the coordinator of the murder mission, confessed in front of a magistrate that Mintu was involved in the financial transactions related to Anar's abduction and murder in India in May.
Mintu's close associate, Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, secretary for Relief and Social Welfare of Jhenaidah Awami League, implicated Mintu in the abduction and murder.
The report mentioned that Shimul Bhuiyan, in his confessional statement to the magistrate, said that Mintu discussed the financial transactions of the murder with Aktaruzzaman Shahin on WhatsApp on May 5 or 6.
Babu also admitted that after the murder, he talked to Shimul Bhuiyan over the phone about the money transaction and met with him.
Furthermore, Babu and Shimul Bhuiyan exchanged photos of the murder via mobile phone.
DB Police arrested Saidul Karim Mintu from Dhanmondi for questioning on June 11. After interrogation, he was shown arrested in the murder case.
MP Anwarul Azim's daughter Mumtarin Ferdous filed the case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the evening of May 12.
MP Anar crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. Anar went to his Indian friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.
The following day, he went out at noon to see a doctor and was supposed to return in the evening. However, he apparently went to Delhi instead and sent a WhatsApp message to Biswas, saying he would call if necessary.
Since then, he could not be reached by phone.
On May 18, Gopal Biswas filed a GD regarding Anar's disappearance at Barahnagar police station. But this member of parliament who has served three times in a row has not been found.
On May 22, news spread that Anar was murdered in flat number BU 56 of a residential building called Sanjiva Gardens in the New Town area near Kolkata. Traces of blood were found inside the house. But the body was not found there.
