Foisal and Mostafiz were detained in the remote hills of Khagrachhari.

Chief of Detective Branch’s (DB) Additional Commissioner Harunor Rashid led the drive.

He assumed Hindu names to get shelter in the temple. They told locals that they like to stay with Kali Mata and they won’t leave the temple and go anywhere, he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, DB Police conducted operations by helicopter in different hills of Khagrachhari and Chittagong districts as they had secret information that Foisal and Mostafiz were staying in the hills of Khagrachhari and Chittagong areas.

Sources involved in the investigation process said that Mostafiz and Foisal went to Kolkata on May 2 before the Anar, MP, was killed.

They returned home on May 19. Detectives were desperately looking for the two fugitive suspects.

Their house is in Phultala, Khulna. The house of Shimul Bhuiyan, identified as the mastermind of the murder, is also in the same area.

So far, five people have been arrested in Bangladesh and two in India and Nepal in connection with this incident.

Among those arrested, two leaders of the Jhenaidah District Awami League have been detained.

On Wednesday, DB police took Kamal Ahmed Babu, alias Gas Babu, the district's Relief and Social Welfare Secretary, to Jhenaidah to recover three mobile phones.

The police are conducting operations to recover the phones from multiple ponds and ditches of the district town.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a lawmaker from the ruling Awami League, crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

The following day, he left to see a doctor at around noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas said that he had gone to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.

Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the Bangladesh government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
