The investigation report in the case concerning the kidnapping and murder of former Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar has been postponed.

The court has set April 21 as the new date for submitting the report.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam issued the order on Thursday after the Detective Branch (DB), the investigating agency in the case, failed to submit the report on the scheduled date on Thursday.

So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case including Syed Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Faisal Ali Shazi alias Tanvir Bhuiyan, Shilasti Rahman, Jhenaidah district Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu, Jhenaidah Awami League's Relief and Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed alias Gas Babu, Mostafizur Rahman, and Faisal Ali.

Of them, six have confessed to their involvement and given statements in court. Only Saidul Karim Mintu has not confessed. All of the accused are currently in jail.

On May 18, 2024, five days after Anwarul Azim Anar went missing, his friend Gopal Biswas filed a general diary (GD) at Barahnagar police station in Kolkata. Despite this, the three-time MP remained untraceable.

On May 22, reports surfaced that Anwarul Azim Anar had been murdered inside room BU-56 of a residential building named Sanjeeva Gardens in Kolkata’s Newtown area.

Investigators found bloodstains inside the room, but his body was never recovered.

On the same day, Anar’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in Dhaka.

According to her statement, on May 9, 2024, at 8pm, her father left his residence near Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka to travel to Jhenaidah.

On May 11, at 4:45pm, she spoke to him on video call. His speech seemed incoherent.

After that, multiple calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.

On May 13, a WhatsApp message from his Indian number read: "I am suddenly going to Delhi. I have a VIP with me. No need to call me. I will call you later."

The statement also mentioned that the family searched for him in different places. After failing to trace him, his friend Gopal Biswas filed a GD in Kolkata.

Later, reports from various media outlets and social media suggested that Anwarul Azim Anar had been abducted in a premeditated manner.

Dorin further said that she received several more messages from her father’s number, which she believes were sent by his kidnappers.
