DB chief: DB office will no longer have 'Aynaghor', 'Bhaater Hotel'

  • 'This is a place of trust'
  • 'We will put end to DB's dishonorable past and restore its integrity'
Update : 05 Oct 2024, 05:09 PM

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) office will no longer house "Aynaghor" or "Bhaater Hotel", announced DMP Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim.

He said this during a "Meet the Press" event held on Saturday at the DMP Media Center on Mintu Road.

DB chief Rezaul Karim emphasized the importance of restoring trust in the DB office, saying: "The office will also not be turned into a dining facility like in the past. This is a place of trust, where any victim can seek help and receive support."

Karim further pledged to cleanse the DB of its tainted reputation, saying: "We will put an end to the DB's dishonorable past and restore its integrity. People will find justice here, and the DB will no longer serve as a hangout for celebrities or public figures.

"Regardless of the accused’s identity, they will receive fair treatment, and no detainee will face torture. Hearing the name 'DB office' should no longer cause fear, except for criminals," he added.

He said: "Some overly ambitious police officers in the past pitted the entire force against the public. As a result, the police morale was shattered during the clashes and violence surrounding the student uprisings and the fall of the previous government.

"The police had never faced such a catastrophic situation before. However, under the leadership of the home affairs adviser and senior police officials, DMP's police stations and DB operations are now fully functional," he added.

Rezaul Karim was appointed as the head of the DB on September 1, 2024.
