Kazi Shahid Ahmed laid to eternal rest

  • First namaz-e-janaza took place in Dhanmondi
  • Second one held at Abahani field
  • Third one at Gulshan Azad Mosque

Kazi Shahid Ahmed, a distinguished entrepreneur, sports organizer, writer and publisher, was laid to rest at Banani graveyard after his third and final namaz-e-janaza following Asr prayers on Tuesday.

His first namaz-e-janaza took place at Baitul Aman Masjid in Dhanmondi after Zuhr prayers. Imam Mohammad Jamal of Baitul Aman Mosque led the namaz-e-janaza. 

Before the janaza, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's eldest son, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, requested everyone to pray for his late father. 

His second namaz-e-janaza was held at the Abahani field. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's advisor Salman F Rahman was present there. 

His third namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers. He was then laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard.

Kazi Shahid Ahmed breathed his last at 7:15pm on Monday, aged 82.

Born in 1940 in Jessore, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's enduring legacy is woven into his multifaceted contributions to diverse fields. As the founder and chairman of the Gemcon Group, he left an indelible mark on the business landscape. 

Beyond entrepreneurship, he was a driving force behind establishing Bangladesh's inaugural organic tea estate.

Survived by his wife, Ameenah Ahmed, a distinguished Rabindra Sangeet artiste, and three sons, Kazi Shahid's innovative spirit extended beyond business. 

He pioneered modern journalism in Bangladesh as the founder and editor of the daily Ajker Kagoj. 

His eldest son, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, serves as a member of parliament from the Awami League and vice president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). His second son Kazi Anis Ahmed is the publisher of Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune. Kazi Inam Ahmed, his youngest son, holds the position of director at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
