People pay final tribute to Kazi Shahid Ahmed at Abahani field

  • Second namaz-e-janaza held

People from all walks of life gathered on Tuesday to offer heartfelt homage to Kazi Shahid Ahmed, a distinguished figure known for his entrepreneurial prowess, sports organization acumen, writing contributions, and publishing achievements. 

The tribute took place at Dhaka's Abahani Limited club field.

The venue saw the holding of a second namaz-e-janaza at 2:40 pm. Earlier in the day, the first namaz-e-janaza held at Baitul Aman Masjid in Dhanmondi, following the Zuhr prayers.

As the day progressed, preparations were made for his body to be transported to Gulshan, where the third namaz-e-janaza would be conducted at the Azad Mosque after the Asr prayers.

The final resting place for Ahmed will be the Banani graveyard.

Ahmed's journey came to an end on Monday at 7:15 pm, leaving behind a legacy that resonates across various spheres.

Born in 1940 in Jessore, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's enduring legacy is woven into his multifaceted contributions to diverse fields. As the founder and chairman of the Gemcon Group, he left an indelible mark on the business landscape. Beyond entrepreneurship, he was a driving force behind establishing Bangladesh's inaugural organic tea estate.

Survived by his wife, Ameenah Ahmed, a distinguished Rabindra Sangeet artist, and three sons, Kazi Shahid's innovative spirit extended beyond business. 

He pioneered modern journalism in Bangladesh, known as the founder and editor of the daily Ajker paper. 

His eldest son, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, serves as a Member of Parliament of Awami League and Vice-President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BAFFE). His son Kazi Anis Ahmed is the publisher of English daily Dhaka Tribune and online news portal Bangla Tribune. Inam Ahmed, his younger son, holds the position of Director at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). 

Kazi Shahid Ahmed, a trailblazer in various arenas, will be deeply missed by the nation.
