Third namaz-e-janaza of Kazi Shahid held in Gulshan

Pioneer of modern journalism in Bangladesh, distinguished entrepreneur, sports organizer, writer and publisher Kazi Shahid Ahmed’s third and final namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque on Tuesday. 

The namaz-e-janaza, held after Asr prayers, was led by Imam Maulana Fahimur Rahman. 

Attendees included Dhaka-17 MP Mohammad A Arafat, BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus, BCB Director Ismail Haider Mallick, BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Sujon, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, officials and staff from the Gemcon Group.

Ahead of the janaza, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's eldest son, MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed, requested everyone to pray for his father. 

His first namaz-e-janaza took place at Baitul Aman Masjid in Dhanmondi after Zuhr prayers. Imam Mohammad Jamal of Baitul Aman Mosque led the namaz-e-janaza. 

His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Abahani field. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's advisor Salman F Rahman was present there. 

The renowned entrepreneur will be laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard.

Kazi Shahid Ahmed breathed his last at 7:15pm on Monday aged 82.

Born in 1940 in Jessore, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's enduring legacy is woven into his multifaceted contributions to diverse fields. As the founder and chairman of the Gemcon Group, he left an indelible mark on the business landscape. Beyond entrepreneurship, he was a driving force behind establishing Bangladesh's inaugural organic tea estate.

Survived by his wife, Ameenah Ahmed, a distinguished Rabindra Sangeet artist, and three sons, Kazi Shahid's innovative spirit extended beyond business. 

He pioneered modern journalism in Bangladesh, known as the founder and editor of the daily Ajker Kagoj. 

His eldest son, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, serves as a member of parliament of the Awami League and vice president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). His son Kazi Anis Ahmed is the publisher of the English daily Dhaka Tribune and the online news portal Bangla Tribune. Kazi Inam Ahmed, his youngest son, holds the position of director at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
