First janaza of Kazi Shahid Ahmed held at Dhanmondi

  • Body taken to Abahani field 
  • Third janaza to be observed in Gulshan
  • The burial will take place at Banani graveyard

The first namaz-e-janaza of Kazi Shahid Ahmed took place at Baitul Aman Masjid, Dhanmondi, following the Zohar prayers on Tuesday. Imam Mohammad Jamal of Baitul Aman Mosque led the janaza. 

The janaza commenced after 1:30pm. Ahead of the janaza, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's eldest son, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, requested everyone to pray for his father. 

After the first janaza, Kazi Shahid Ahmed’s body was transported to the Abahani field, allowing people from all walks of life to pay their respects. A second namaz-e-janaza took place there 2:40pm. 

Subsequently, the body will be transferred to Gulshan. His third namaz-e-janaza will be observed at the Gulshan Azad Mosque after the Asr prayers. The burial will take place at Banani graveyard.

The janaza was attended by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, BM Mozammel Huq, organizing secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Gemcon Group officials and employees, along with numerous well-wishers from various spheres of life. 

Ahmed breathed his last on Monday at 7:15pm.

Born in 1940 in Jessore, Kazi Shahid Ahmed's enduring legacy is woven into his multifaceted contributions to diverse fields. As the founder and chairman of the Gemcon Group, he left an indelible mark on the business landscape. Beyond entrepreneurship, he was a driving force behind establishing Bangladesh's inaugural organic tea estate.

Survived by his wife, Ameenah Ahmed, a distinguished Rabindra Sangeet artist, and three sons, Kazi Shahid's innovative spirit extended beyond business.

He pioneered modern journalism in Bangladesh, known as the founder and editor of the daily Ajker paper. 

His eldest son, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, serves as a Member of Parliament of Awami League and Vice-President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BAFFE). His son Kazi Anis Ahmed is the publisher of English daily Dhaka Tribune and online news portal Bangla Tribune. Inam Ahmed, his younger son, holds the position of Director at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). 

Kazi Shahid Ahmed, a trailblazer in various arenas, will be deeply missed by the nation.
