The daughter of slain Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim alias Anar, who was brutally murdered in Kolkata, on Saturday, said that her father was murdered for political reasons, hinting at internal party conflicts.
Anar's daughter Muntarin Ferdoush Dorin came up with the remark while replying to reporters' questions in front of the National Press Club in the city on Saturday regarding her father's killing in Kolkata.
"Of course, there must be internal political party conflict behind my father's killing. Otherwise, why would they (arrested suspects belonging to her father's party) be involved in the brutal murder? They knew everything. They even came to comfort me!"
She questioned why they didn't tell her.
Dorin further said: "Then I told the journalist brothers that my father is missing, please search for him. I have gone to DB chief, DB police to seek help. Then why they (suspects) did not tell me or why they did not seek help from the police?"
She also said that the information has been concealed which is a crime.
"You know that a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) went Jhenaidah and worked to recover three mobiles. But they didn't get it. Tampering with evidence is also a crime. I want every crime to be punished", she added.
Regarding the arrest of two local leaders of the Jhenaidah Awami League, she said the two local Awami League leaders were arrested based on enough information. Even the prime suspected killer Shimul Bhuiyan has been given a statement in the court under section 164 about Gas Babu.
"Gas Babu also gave a statement under Section 164 and disclosed the name of Saidul Karim Minto's uncle. Of course, they were arrested because they were involved. I believe this and the investigation that is going on, they will be brought to book subject to this investigation", she added.
Anwarul Azim Anar, a lawmaker from the ruling Awami League, crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
The following day, he left to see a doctor at around noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas said that he had gone to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.
Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the Bangladesh government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
