Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said the trial of Major Mozaffar Hossain (retd), a fugitive in the assassination case of President Ziaur Rahman, will be conducted under existing military law.
He said: "The main trial of Ziaur Rahman's assassination was held under military court, where specific findings about the murder have been established."
He was speaking to reporters after a meeting with senior Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials at BGB headquarters in Pilkhana.
The minister said police arrested Mozaffar based on intelligence information after he spent years living under a false identity in a neighboring country. He is now in military custody for legal proceedings.
He said: "The case will be tried through a General Court Martial in accordance with the law," adding that there is no legal provision to try the same offense separately under both civil and military law.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the legal process would proceed under the military justice system.
