  • 4kg of flesh found in septic tank in Kolkata
  • West Bengal CID issued Lookout Notice for four individuals
Update : 29 May 2024, 11:51 PM

The West Bengal CID has issued a Lookout Notice for four individuals, including Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, a childhood friend of murdered MP Anwarul Azim Anar. A CID team is heading to Nepal to trace Shaheen's whereabouts.

Another accused, Siam, may also be in Nepal and is under CID surveillance.

Investigating officers claim that the main accused in the Anar murder, Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, fled from Kolkata via Kathmandu. His current whereabouts are still uncertain, but it is believed that he may have fled to the UAE or the US.

Meanwhile, West Bengal CID recovered around 4kg of flesh and human hair in a septic tank at Sanjeeva Garden of Kolkata on Tuesday. They believe this flesh belongs to the deceased MP Anwarul Azim.

However, DNA tests will be conducted to confirm this. For this purpose, the victim's daughter is being flown from Bangladesh to Kolkata.

Police sources indicated the partnership soured when Anar withheld two gold shipments worth over Tk 100 crore. Shaheen, frustrated by Anar’s refusal to deliver the shipments or return the money, allegedly decided to have him killed.

Anar crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

The following day, he left to see a doctor at noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas stated that he went to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.

Since then, he could not be reached by phone.

Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief Additional Commissioner Harunor Rashid said that the murder was planned for two to three months.

Meetings were held at Shaheen’s flats in Gulshan and Bashundhara to finalize the plan. The conspirators rented a flat in Kolkata on April 25, anticipating Anar’s visit.

On May 13, Anar was picked up from his friend’s house by a suspect and taken to the rented flat. Within half an hour of entering the flat, Anar was killed. Meanwhile, the suspect kept his phone active to mislead investigators.

After that, he could not be reached by phone.

Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, quoting Indian police.
