Different cultural bodies organized a human chain, demanding the release of district Awami League (AL) General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu, on Tuesday.
The program was organized at the district post office intersection.
The Bangladesh Gana Shilpi Shangstha, Shwadhinata Shangskritik Parishad, Jhankar Shilpi Goshthi, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Forum, KC College Theatre, among other organisations, took part in the program.
Speakers at the program alleged that Mintu was arrested over false charges.
On June 11, the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mintu over the murder of lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar.
The ruling party leader was detained from the capital's Dhanmondi area and was taken to DB office on Minto Road later.
Later on June 13, a court placed him on a eight-day remand. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after investigation officer Mahfuzur Rahman pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand.
