Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj Awami League leaders on Sunday said that they want proper evidence regarding Jhenaidah-4 Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim Anar’s murder.
The leaders said these during a human chain on Sunday at 11:30am at Kaliganj in Jhenaidah.
They asked to see his clothing, wristwatch, glasses, and the weapon used in the murder as evidence. If he was a victim of murder, they want to see parts of his body. If he is missing, they seek information about his whereabouts.
For this reason, leaders and activists sought the attention of the administration and the government.
Leaders said that the people of Kaliganj are grieving over the news of MP Anar's death.
They demanded exemplary punishment for culprits and want the mastermind behind the incident, Aktaruzzaman, alias Shaheen, to be brought back to the country for trial and exemplary punishment. People from various professions who attended the human chain held placards demanding justice for the killers of MP Anar.
On Saturday, the leaders placed a nine-point demand to investigate into the death of the constituency's slain MP, Anwarul Azim Anar, in India.
The demands include the recovery of the MP’s passport, watch, ring, glasses, and other belongings. Additionally, the latest location of the mobile phones used by MP Anar should be published. Information circulated about the murder must be addressed with accurate details provided, and the weapons used by the killers should be publicly identified.
On Thursday, the Nepalese police arrested one of the key suspects in the murder of the MP. The arrestee is Siam Hossain, who was rumoured to have fled to Kathmandu after the murder.
Diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway by the Bangladesh Embassy for Siam's extradition.
Meanwhile, a four-member team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) went to Nepal on Saturday.
The Jhenaidah-4 MP crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The following day, he left to see a doctor at noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas stated that he went to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.
Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
