Bailey Road fire: 3 more bodies handed over to family members

Three more bodies of the victims, who were killed in the devasting fire in the capital’s Bailey Road area on Thursday, have been handed over to family members.

The bodies are of Revenue Officer Shah Jalal Uddin, 34, his wife Meherun Nessa Jahan Helali, 24, and their child Fairuz Kashem Jamira, 3, said Habibur Rahman Habib, sub-inspector of Ramna Model police station. 

At present, there are three more bodies kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue. The bodies will be handed over to families after DNA tests.

The bodies are thought to be of Abhishruti Shashtri alias Brishti Khatun, AKM Minhaz Uddin and Nazmul Islam.

The body of journalist Abhishruti Shashtri is yet to be handed over to her family due to complications over her name.  

The former TheReport.live journalist’s family members said her real name is Brishti Khatun. She was a resident of Kushtia. 

Abdul Majid, a member of ward no 7 of Betbaria Union, said: "The real name of Abhishruti Shashtri is Brishti. She studied at Eden Mohila College. Her name is Brishti on her birth certificate and national identity card.”

Police have arrested two owners of an eatery called Chumuk and the manager of Kacchi Bhai restaurant in connection with the devastating fire that broke out at Green Cozy Cottage in Bailey Road on Thursday night. 

The detainees are Anwarul Haque and Shafiqur Rahman Rimon, owners of Chumuk and Md Jisan, manager of the Kacchi Bhai restaurant. 

At least 46 people were killed, and over 20 others sustained severe injuries by a devastating fire on Thursday night.

Firefighters rescued 70 people, including 42 in unconscious state, from the rooftop and different floors of the seven-storey Green Cozy Cottage.
