“Whenever he undertook a task, he did it with sincere dedication. Even as a businessman, he was a true entrepreneur.”
These were the words of Kazi Nabil Ahmed, the eldest son of Kazi Shahid Ahmed and a Member of Parliament from the Awami League from Jessore-3 (Sadar) constituency.
He shared his thoughts while remembering his father before a doa mahfil at Gulshan Azad Mosque on Friday.
“Pioneering the modern era of journalism in Bangladesh, late Kazi Shahid Ahmed, publisher and editor of daily ‘Ajker Kagoj’, founder of the Gemcon Group, and distinguished sports organizer, tirelessly dedicated his life to his work with utmost devotion,” he said.
Kazi Nabil Ahmed further added: “My father, Kazi Shahid Ahmed, loved innovative projects. He was a creative soul. He established the first organic tea garden in Bangladesh and has always been keen on promoting organic food to the masses,” said.
Mentioning that the retired army officer had worked for the country all his life, Kazi Nabil Ahmed said: “My father was a social worker at heart. He managed several orphanages and loved people selflessly.”
Describing his father as a family man, Kazi Nabil Ahmed further added: "He loved being around his family, had a big heart, and always enjoyed helping others. Kazi Shahid Ahmed will always be remembered in the hearts of the Bangladeshi people. We, his family, will continue to preserve his creative works."
Kazi Shahid Ahmed breathed his last at 7:15pm on Monday, aged 82, leaving behind his wife, three sons, and numerous admirers.
During the doa mahfil, prayers were offered for his departed soul.
Among those present were his wife, distinguished Rabindra Sangeet artiste Ameenah Ahmed, his second son Kazi Anis Ahmed, who is the publisher of Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune, and his youngest son Kazi Inam Ahmed, who holds the position of director at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
