Abrar Fahad’s younger brother Abrar Faiyaz got accepted not only into the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) but also cleared Dhaka University's ‘Ka’ entry test as well.
He scored 44th in the tests, according to the results published on Monday.
“My brother had applied to five institutions so I followed in his footsteps,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.”
“I don’t wish to apply elsewhere,” he said, adding: “I am still not sure about where I will choose to go but I will most likely pick Buet. Then again I believe that God will lead me righteously and I will be able to fulfill my brother’s wishes.”
Previously he earned himself a spot at Buet in the 450th position under Mechanical Engineering.
He has also taken admission in the CSE department at Gazipur Islamic University of Technology (IUT).
“Three years ago my journey towards applying at universities began immediately after completing my intermediate exams. Back then I did not imagine so much would happen in the next three years.”
“I stayed for college in Dhaka for three months but returned to Kushtia after my brother passed away. Then Covid happened. I was stuck at home for around nine months and my immunity was compromised as well,” he wrote.
“In April 2021 an uncle passed away. In July last year, my mother and I were infected by Covid-19. Then suddenly my grandmother got cancer and passed away very quickly too. Then I had one month left for HSC. I also started getting sick again and again. I saw a doctor 10 times in the last six to seven months and I felt like I had to take more than a hundred types of medicines. I just prayed to Allah for good health on the days of admission tests,” he said.
“The last three years have actually been quite long. Most of what happened was not expected and I found myself in a place where I never thought I would be. However, I took admission tests in five places and Allah did not disappoint at the end of these three years.”
“I got into MIST- 247th Medical- 4410th (not allotted yet) IUT- 41st (CSE) Dhaka University- 44th and Buet- 450th (Mechanical Engineering),” he added.
