A deadly fire broke out on the seventh floor of a multistorey building in the city's Gulshan Sunday evening that claimed one life and injured dozens.
The fire began at 6:59pm in a 12-storey building in Gulshan-2. A total of 19 firefighting units managed to bring the flames under control after four hours around 11pm. At least 22 people were rescued alive from the building, fire service officials said in a briefing.
In the visuals emerging from the site, huge flames coupled with thick clouds of black smoke were seen billowing out of the building. The residents of the building said that many people were trapped inside the building after the fire. Many were signalling the rescuers by flashing torch lights while others are calling their relatives and asking them to come to the rescue.
The reasons for the fire mishap and the extent of damage could not be confirmed immediately.
