India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over the body of a Bangladeshi man to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 15 days after he was shot dead along the Telkupi border in Chapainawabganj.
Officials from BGB received the body of the Bangladeshi national, named Badshah, from BSF around 6:30pm on Monday evening and later handed it over to his family.
Lt Col Mahmudul Hasan, commander of BGB Camp-59, confirmed receiving the remains of the man.
On September 5, Badshah along with a few other Bangladeshi nationals intruded into the Indian side of the border when BSF officials from Gopalnagar camp began firing at them, killing Badshah on the spot.
“Afterwards BSF officials picked up his dead body and refused to hand it over to us,” said the commander.
“We protested the incident and held a flag meeting immediately, asking them to return the dead body,” Lt Col Mahmudul Hasan further said.
“Following some legal procedures we were able to retrieve Badshah’s body from Indian officials,” he added.
