Students who failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams staged a protest in front of the Mymensingh Education Board, demanding the cancellation of their HSC results.
The protest escalated when the students locked the main gate of the board at around 2pm on Monday, preventing officials inside from leaving.
The demonstration began around noon as part of a siege program, with the protesters blocking the entrance to the education board building.
Despite efforts by the board chairman and other officials to address their concerns, the students remained resolute in their demands.
The situation became tense when the students forced their way inside after officials attempted to calm them.
Mymensingh Education Board Chairman Md Abu Taher tried to reason with the students, saying: "The demands have been reported to higher authorities, including the deputy commissioner. We have informed them, but no decision can be made from here without directives from the top."
Despite his assurances, the students continued to protest and locked the main gate by the afternoon.
Although police had been deployed at the scene from the morning, they avoided any confrontation with the students.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Md Abu Taher said: "Some students arrived today and started their sit-in. We tried to convince them, but so far we have not received any instructions from the ministry regarding their demands."
He added: "There is a coordination committee meeting at the ministry on the 27th where the chairmen of various education boards will discuss the issue."
Abu Taher confirmed that the students had locked the board's main gate, leaving the officials unable to intervene or take any action to disperse the protest.
