‘It is clear the ATC was not confusing the pilot’

Update : 17 Mar 2018, 01:22 AM

There are allegations that the air traffic controller (ATC)misguided the pilot. What is your response?

I do not think so. After listening to the conversation between the ATC and the pilot, it is clear they were not confusing the pilot.

After the accident, you said it was the pilot’s fault. Do you still maintain it?

We cannot start blaming now. There are investigations going on. Within a month, we will be able to ascertain what happened. But according to eyewitnesses, conversation between the pilot and ATC, and CCTV footages, the aircraft seemed tilted during its landing approach. It did not appear to be following the right instructions.

TIA’s operational capacity has increased by 34% last year. Was the infrastructure improved to support it?

Yes, yes. We are constructing more parking bays and expanding our terminal complex.

Do you have an automated radar system? There have been reports that you are using outdated manual radar technology.

No, no, no, they are wrong. We installed the highly sophisticated monopulse radar on February 1. [embed]https://youtu.be/CYhB1LkhxwI[/embed]

Was it operational during the incident?

Yes, we have a primary and secondary radar system which were both active.

Were the emergency services prepared to handle such disasters?

Our firefighters reached the crash site in two minutes. The army, which was also nearby, managed to reach the spot around 2.5 minutes after the crash. We are always prepared to take on severe disasters and keep our emergency services highly alert to be swiftly responsive when these things occur.

There have been reports about the US-Bangla aircraft hitting something. Is there any truth to the matter?

None at all. There was a Malindo Airlines aircraft, but it was in the parking bay, not the runway. The plane flew very low, but did not hit anything.
