In a bid to provide the national basketball players higher-level training opportunities ahead of the December’s South Asian Games, the Bangladesh Basketball Federation has appointed veteran Italian coach Fabio Fossati who arrived in Dhaka Sunday.
Fossati, who joined the basketball training camp at the BKSP in Savar soon after his arrival, will train the national basketball team on two terms, first time for 15 days on September 15-30 while second time on November 1-30.
“He (Fossati) joined the team today (Sunday) and will stay there for 15 days. He is very busy so he will leave after that but will return again to resume the coaching on November 1. After that he will stay until the SA Games.” said BBF general secretary AK Sarkar yesterday.
Bangladesh men’s basketball team finished third in the 2010 SA Games in Dhaka but the discipline was not included in the 2016 Games in India. This time around, the federation targets better results to bag more than just bronze. Sarkar also informed that they are planning to send the team to Singapore in the middle of October to play some practice matches ahead of the upcoming SA Games scheduled to be held in Nepal on December 1-10.
