Bangladeshi shooter Syeda Sadia Sultana, who won gold medals at the South Asian Games and Commonwealth Shooting Championship in 2010, breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chittagong Monday. She was 31.
Hailing from Chittagong, Sadia was inspired by her father to take up the sport when she was 10.
She announced her grand arrival with gold in team event of 10m air rifle at the 2010 SA Games held in Dhaka, before replicating her heroics later at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in New Delhi.
Sadia last triumphed in the same 10m air rifle event at the 2013 Bangladesh Games.
She then abruptly left the shooting arena in the country and did not make a return.
Different sports organizations including Bangladesh Cricket Board, Bangladesh Football Federation and Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association expressed condolence at the passing away of Sadia.
