The first Bangladeshi original by Zee5 Global, Mainker Chipay, directed by Abrar Athar, premiered globally to audiences in 190+ countries on November 9. This dark comedy thriller gives a glimpse of yet another mastery by renowned cinematographer, Tahsin Rahman.
The film’s interesting title is undoubtedly intriguing but what has also been stirring up audience excitement is the prospect of watching the extraordinary direction and art work of the film, shot entirely at night.
In a conversation with Tahsin, he revealed how vital it was for him to give the film a real and strong character.Tahsin emphasized how the minimalistic approach taken by Abrar helped him with creative liberty.
Talking about how he feels about his new project, he said: “Our visit to BDFC helped us define the character and mood of the film and create the perfect setting. We knew we wanted to add a lot of character and atmosphere in Mainker Chipay and picking up lenses from the 60’s really helped us do that."

"There were miniscule things that really helped the film translate into a dark thriller," he added. "For example, we had minimal lighting on the set, we kept the crew count to 50, there were a great deal of shots that were hand-held and we shot at night to bring ease into the art direction. We in fact primarily only shot in 4 locations for the film to reflect a sense of realism and minimalism.”
Mainker Chipay stars Afran Nisho, Sariful Razz, and Shamol Mawla.
