Having ruled the small screen and after soaring success with his big screen debut in “Surongo”, Afran Nisho, amidst great fan anticipation, graced the over-the-top (OTT) platform Hoichoi with his eagerly awaited series “Sharey Showlo”.
The thriller series was released on the renowned OTT platform on August 17.
Afran Nisho, known for repeatedly proving his versatility across different roles, played the character of a lawyer named Reza who handles a high-profile case in Director Yasir Al Haq’s debut web series.
The story of ‘Sharey Showlo’
The series' storyline revolves around an incident that occurs on a lavish floor of the "Violet Inn" hotel, a floor aptly named "Sharey Showlo." This particular floor is primarily reserved for the city's VIPs.
The thriller series narrates the story set against the backdrop of a looming court verdict concerning a building collapse that led to worker fatalities.
In this legal battle, the famous lawyer Reza is representing the building owner.
Intriguingly, the night before the verdict, he spends intimate moments in a room of the Violet Inn's "Sharey Showlo" floor with a young lady named Natasha.
At the same time, corporate manager Rakib, journalist Rini, and additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the police, Altaf, are seen on the same floor, each for their own reasons.
Upon hearing of his wife's sickness, Afran Nisho, portraying the character of lawyer Reza, leaves the hotel.
However, shortly after, he quickly returns following a call from ADC Altaf, only to discover Natasha's bloodied corpse in his room.
Rakib, Altaf, and Rini, who are present in the room, accuse Reza of the murder. Conversely, Reza argues that one of the three has murdered Natasha. This forms the narrative of the series.
"Sharey Showlo" is undoubtedly a story that will intrigue mystery enthusiasts. Most of the actors in this star-studded series have given outstanding performances, competing with each other's talent.
Intekhab Dinar portrays the character of corporate manager Rakib in this series. Journalist Rini is played by Zakia Bari Mamo, ADC Altaf by Imtiaz Barshon, Gaffar by Shahed Ali, public relations officer Natasha by Afia Tabassum, and Reza's wife Ayesha by Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed.
However, amid all the stars, the focal point of the audience's interest was Afran Nisho.
Following his role as Masud in "Surongo", critics and fans alike were eager to gauge the success of his portrayal of lawyer Reza.
Mixed responses to Afran Nisho’s performance
However, many were left disappointed at the end of the series. The disappointment stemmed from the fact that the level of popularity Afran Nisho's dramas and series have achieved in recent years has not been matched by "Sharey Showlo".
Many felt that the series failed to deliver the exceptional quality often associated with Afran Nisho.
While some argue that this series did not showcase Afran Nisho's talent as everyone expected, it is worth noting that, in contrast to other stories where Nisho plays a central character, "Sharey Showlo" is not solely reliant on his character.
Here, the narrative progresses with almost every character at its core.
Yet, given his stellar reputation and the acclaim he received for his recent work in "Surongo", the question that lingers is: how well has he fared with the audience in "Sharey Showlo"?
