The authorities are set to suspend two officials of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh over October 4’s national grid failure.
The decision would be implemented by Sunday, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told reporters at the Secretariat after receiving the PGCB’s probe report on the power grid failure.
One of the two PGCB officials is an assistant engineer, while the other is a deputy assistant engineer.
The state minister also said the power distribution company officials responsible for the failure would also face the music soon.
Regarding the dismissal of two engineers, ABM Badruddoza Khan, public relations manager of PGCB said that the process of suspending the two engineers is underway on the instructions of the state minister.
“A statement has already been sent from the state minister's office, but the official order is not done yet,” he added.
Regarding the submission of the investigation report, he said the written probe report was not submitted yet. “We are hoping it will be submitted soon.”
On October 4 afternoon there was a near-complete nationwide blackout when the national grid failed. The power supply resumed seven hours later, after the country had experienced its biggest power outage since November 1, 2014.
