The ruling Awami League has set the theme for its 22nd national council slated for December 24.
The main theme is "Unnoyon Obhijatray Deshratna Sheikh Hasinar Netritte Bangabandhur Swapner Unnoto, Samridho O Smart Bangladesh Gorar Protoye", which roughly translates to "a promise to realize Bangabandhu's dream of building a developed, affluent and smart Bangladesh under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina".
Awami League Presidium Member Kazi Zafar Ullah, who is also convener of the party's sub-committee on finance, said this to journalists after visiting the council venue, the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
About preparations for the council, he said they are taking preparation for the gathering of at least 100,000 people on the day of the council.
The council stage will be made in the shape of the party's election symbol, boat, while the pandal will be in the shape of the Bangla letter "La".
Kazi Zafar said previous councils were held for two days but this time the council will be held on a single day with two sessions; there will be a break for lunch and prayers between the two sessions.
The new committee will be formed as per the opinions of 7,000 councillors of the party, he said.
Awami League presidium members Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, Forest and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, and Central Working Committee members Advocate ABM Riazul Kabir Kawsar and Syed Abdul Awal Shamim were present during the visit.
