Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have so far arrested 179 people in connection with a flash procession staged by the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, whose activities are currently banned, in Gulshan.

The DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division disclosed the information in a press release on Saturday.

On September 11, around 150–200 leaders and activists gathered in an alley beside KFC on Gulshan Road No 3 and brought out a flash procession.

When police moved to disperse them, the processionists allegedly threw crude bombs at the police. Police fired two rounds of rubber bullets to disperse them and bring the situation under control.

Following the incident, Gulshan Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Daud Hossain and Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tanvir were withdrawn over the procession staged by leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations.
