Twenty-one platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency ahead of the by-election to help ensure a free, fair and peaceful vote.

BGB personnel have been on duty in the constituency since Sunday, according to Thakurgaon Battalion (50 BGB).

The troops have been deployed across three upazilas, 22 unions and one municipality within the constituency. They will operate as mobile units and striking forces in their assigned areas.

Intelligence operations have also been intensified to strengthen security. At a press briefing, BGB officials said personnel were using body-worn cameras and drones to monitor key locations.

The force said its primary objective was to ensure that voters could cast their ballots safely and without obstruction.

Officials said BGB personnel are also monitoring the situation to ensure candidates have equal opportunities to campaign and that the electoral code of conduct is followed.

The force remains on alert to prevent unrest, violence and other activities that could threaten public safety during the election. Surveillance and patrols have also been strengthened in border areas.
