Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammed Quader has said that many people are facing harassment while testing for coronavirus.

It takes 10 to 15 days to get test results. The infected person often ends up infecting many others in that time, he observed.

The deputy leader of opposition also stated that it is crucial to set up real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) labs in every district, noting that testing of Covid-19 has not kept up with rising infection rates.

Qauder made the comments in a video message on Wednesday.

The Jatiya Party chairman further said that if the number of tests were increased, the patients would get proper treatment and the number of infections would be reduced.

He also noted that although Covid-19 test facilities are available in the capital and divisional cities, the general public is being deprived of test facilities at the district level. Therefore, it has become urgent to set up RT-PCR labs in every district.

Earlier on April 1, data from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control, and Research (IEDCR) showed that Bangladesh was testing for Covid-19 at a rate that was the lowest in the world.

On May 17, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed that six out of the total 41 labs in the country at the time were facing problems in conducting tests due to troubles in operating RT-PCR machines for various reasons.
