Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said the new leadership of Bangladesh Chhatra League would be chosen through “negotiation.”
Addressing the 29th National Council of Chhatra League in Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan, she said: “A subjective committee will sit on Saturday to select the new leadership. I want you to choose your new leadership through negotiation among those who are running for the top posts.”
She also asked the aspirants to learn how to sacrifice for achieving something in the future.
The panel which would select the new president and general of Chhatra League would consist of members of the Central Executive Committee and representatives of the organizing districts of the organization.

Regarding the age limit for Chhatra League leaders, Hasina said it was 27 years in the last council, but as the present committee continues their tenure for nine months more, the age limit will be 28 years this time.
“This committee was in force for two years and nine months. They’re in posts for additional nine months. I do not want anyone to be left out from any post for these nine months. So, we can give one year as a grace period,” she said.
She also urged the Chhatra League leaders to choose qualified leaders so that they can strengthen the organization.
The prime minister also highlighted Chhatra League’s role in the country’s Liberation War, all democratic movements and struggle for building a peaceful and harmonious society.
President of the ruling party’s student wing Saifur Rahman Sohag presided over the National Council’s opening ceremony, and General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain presented the organizational report.
