Jagannath University (JnU) unit Chhatra Dal has submitted a memorandum demanding the trial of Chhatra League for its alleged violent activities on campus before and during the July uprising, as well as an investigation into their associates for appropriate punishment.

The organization’s Convenor Mehedi Hasan Himel, Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin, and other leaders and activists handed over the memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim on Thursday.

According to the memorandum, the Chhatra League engaged in violent activities on campus under the rule of what it termed as “fascist Sheikh Hasina”.

The organization demanded that those responsible be brought to justice and punished accordingly. It also called for a proper investigation into those who allegedly aided the Chhatra League and urged for their punishment.

The memorandum further said that during the mass uprising of July and August, Chhatra League members and their allies unleashed brutality on students, resulting in casualties.

Highlighting the sacrifices made by students and the general public during the movement, the memorandum stressed the urgency of fulfilling their demands and ensuring justice for the victims.

It also underscored the right of persecuted students to receive justice in their prolonged struggle to restore democracy.

JnU Chhatra Dal's Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin said: “All individuals involved in the killing of Sajid at Jagannath University and those responsible for 17 years of repression must be brought to justice through a thorough investigation.”

Mehedi Hasan Himel, convenor of JnU Chhatra Dal, said: "We have protested for democracy, human rights, voting rights, freedom of expression, and a proper academic environment in the country.”

He added: “Students, youths, and young leaders have been subjected to the oppression of the banned organization Chhatra League in this struggle to restore democracy. They have tortured many opposition-minded general students, including Chhatra Dal activists on this campus, often with the help of their collaborators.”

He further added: “General students have also faced attacks in the movement for democratic restoration. We demand that the administration conduct an impartial investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice."

The event was attended by invited central committee joint general secretaries Mohiuddin Rubel and Shahadat Hossain, along with joint convenors Jafar Ahmed (No. 1), Shahriar Hossain, Mahmudul Hasan Khan, Kazi Rafiqul Islam, Nahian Anik, Jahidul Islam, Mehedi Hasan Rudro, Mozammel Dany, and Hasibur Hasib, among other leaders and activists of JnU Chhatra Dal.
