Shibir accuses Chhatra Dal of following in footsteps of Chhatra League

Shibir claims Chhatra Dal is trying to unfairly suppress Shibir on campuses

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, has accused the BNP's student wing Chhatra Dal of following in the footsteps of the banned Chhatra League.

Shibir made the accusation during a press conference at Dhaka University's Madhur Canteen on Sunday afternoon.

The organization also accused the Chhatra Dal of blaming Shibir for attacking students, after "attacking the students themselves."

In a statement, read out by Shibir President Jahidul Islam, it said the aspirations that developed around student politics are being destroyed due to some student organizations' activities.

He referred to activities including domineering policies, criminal activities, extortion, occupation tactics, tagging, and blame-shifting.

"Although the banned Chhatra League has been expelled from Bangladesh, unfortunately, their supposedly friendly organization Chhatra Dal is seen following in the same path," said Jahid.

According to Shibir, the Chhatra Dal is trying to unfairly suppress Shibir and other student organizations on campuses.

Moreover, they are attacking students in "criminal-like" ways and deliberately shifting the blame onto Chhatra Shibir - a tactic previously employed by the banned Chhatra League, Jahid said.

He added that even in a Bangladesh free from "genocidal Sheikh Hasina," some student organizations have adopted fascist tools through their declarations.

Jahid highlighted several incidents, saying the Chhatra Dal is making horrific declarations on Facebook like "attacking/beating Shibir was justified before and will remain so in the future."

"They have staged protests in various places across the country based on false claims of Shibir's involvement in the Kuet incident," he said.

He added: "In their procession in Khulna's Shib Bari, the Chhatra Dal chanted slogans like— catch Shibir one by one, slaughter them after catching."

"We used to hear such terrible slogans from the Chhatra League. But now we see the Chhatra Dal reflecting the banned Chhatra League's image," said Jahid.

Speaking about the Kuet incident, Jahid claimed that the Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal's outside "criminals" conducted a planned armed attack in broad daylight, resulting in over 50 injured students.

According to him, instead of addressing the violence, the Chhatra Dal attempted to deflect blame onto Shibir.

"Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib gave instructions at a public press conference to blame Shibir, revealing their despicable plan to the nation," Jahid said.

He also referenced an incident at Sylhet's MC College involving an Anjumane Talimia Islamia member. While Shibir was initially blamed, Jahid noted that the college principal's statement proved that Shibir was not involved in that incident.

Meanwhile, the Chhatra Dal and Bangladesh Students' Union condemned and protested Shibir's press conference.

These protests were conveyed through a notice signed by the Chhatra Dal and Students' Union's respective office secretaries in the evening.

The Chhatra Dal said Shibir's presence at Madhur Canteen dishonours the Liberation War. The statement also mentions that Shibir is disrespecting the valiant freedom fighters and martyrs by calling the Liberation War an “Indian conspiracy."

On the other hand, the Students' Union called on students and the general public to boycott Shibir.
