Miscreants detonated two crude bombs in front of the pocket gate of a dormitory at Dhaka University (DU).
Additionally, seven more crude bombs were recovered in front of the university’s annex building.
The matter was confirmed to Bangla Tribune on Monday at 1am by the university’s Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed.
It has been reported that around 6am, seven unexploded cocktails were found under an almond tree beside the Kazi Motahar Hossain Building of DU. The explosives were first spotted by a security guard, who then informed the university’s proctorial team and Shahbagh police station.
Later, at 9:20am, a team from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Bomb Disposal Unit arrived and safely removed the cocktails.
Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed said that the seven cocktails were found in two locations near the Medical Center and the annex building — four in one spot and three in another. Earlier in the morning, two cocktails were detonated in front of the pocket gate of a residence hall. However, he clarified that this location is outside the main campus area.
Meanwhile, the proctor also mentioned that during the time of the cocktail explosions, the banned organization Chhatra League held a flash procession from Shahbagh toward Paribagh. One individual has reportedly been detained in connection with the incident. However, police have not yet provided an official statement on the matter.
