Update : 16 Apr 2018, 11:31 PM
Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman and former President Hussain Mohammad Ershad has urged the people of Rangpur division to give him 22 seats in the next election. Ershad was speaking at two public rallies in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat on Monday. “Only my party is working to get rid of this corrupt government and to make people’s lives better,” he said in Niphamari. Ershad said: “There are news of murders and forced disappearances every day in the newspaper, which have become a common thing now.” He added: “Awami League has looted all the banks’ money, the banks are empty now, it is not right that only Awami League will remain in power, forcefully.” “There have been 287 cases of rape in the last two months, it is a curse to be a female now. No woman is allowed justice today. Cases are being filed, culprits are being sued but justice is not served,” Ershad went on to say. In Lalmonirhat, the former president said: “Only Awami League people are getting jobs, general people have no jobs today. It is all about quota.” Ershad urged people by saying: “To dominate such kind of nuisance, a new horizon has started in favour of Langol (JaPa’s symbol). Lets’ break all the Awami rules and regulations.” Talking about development, Ershad said: “All development projects are Dhaka based. I built the entire road system there and now flyovers are made over it.” Ershad said: “Allah has mercy and he will do justice. I am old now, but I can. I pray to Allah that he keeps me alive until the poor people’s party, Jatiya Party comes to power.” The events were organized by the district JaPa units of Nilphamari and Lamonirhat. JaPa Co-Chaiman G M Quader, LGRD State Minister Mashiur Rahaman Ranga, Opposition Whip Shawkat Chowdhury, MP, among others, also spoke on both the occasions.
