Rangpur’s famous Haribhanga mangoes are now being exported to Germany, with plans to expand exports to other countries as well.

In the first shipment, a total of one ton of Haribhanga mangoes was sent to Germany through Green Global Agro Limited, based in Dhaka, on Thursday.

The owner of the company, Kawsar Ahmed said the mangoes were exported to several countries in the Middle East last year. Orders have been received from Germany. We started with one ton.

He also said that there is a huge demand for this mango in Germany.

Meanwhile, since Haribhanga mangoes hit local markets on June 20, the demand has been very high.

On average, 300 to 400 trucks of these mangoes are being sent to different districts across the country every day.

With the increase in demand, the price of these mangoes is also rising.

Visiting the Padaganj Hat area, known as the capital of the Haribhanga mangoes, it has been seen that there is a huge market of one and a half kilometers from morning to evening every day.

Wholesalers and people from different districts thronged there.

Aftab Hossain, manager of Sawdagar Courier Service, said that customers are shipping hundreds of mangoes in three to four covered vans to various districts, including Dhaka and Chittagong.

Temporary branch offices of some banks have been opened to facilitate business transactions.

Another trader Makbul Hossain has come from Rangpur to buy mangoes for the first time due to the high demand in his district.

He said there is a huge demand for different varieties of mangoes including Mishrivog and Langra, but this time the demand for Haribhanga mangoes has increased.

On the other hand, wholesalers Mostafizur Rahman and Anisul Huq said they are negotiating with traders from UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Brunei.

It is anticipated that mango exports could reach Tk100 crore by the first week of July.

Riaz Uddin, deputy director of the Rangpur Department of Agricultural Extension, said the traditional mango of Rangpur is contributing to the economy of Rangpur.

“We are hoping to exceed the export target this time," he added.
