State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari’s car met with an accident while trying to save a hearing-impaired woman in Shibganj upazila of Bogra on Friday morning.

The accident occurred around 9am on the Mokamtala-Joypurhat road in the Gopinathpur area of Kichak union. The state minister sustained minor injuries in the accident, according to Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge Shahinuzzaman Shaheen.

Abdul Bari was travelling from Dhaka to his parliamentary constituency of Joypurhat-2 on an official visit. His wife was accompanying him in the car.

When the vehicle reached the Gopinathpur area around 9am, a 60-year-old hearing-impaired woman, identified as Firoza, suddenly came in front of the car.

In an attempt to avoid hitting her, the driver swerved the vehicle, and it ended up in a paddy field beside the road.

The state minister received first aid at the scene before returning home.

Firoza, a resident of Gopinathpur village, also sustained minor injuries and was taken to TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital in Bogra for treatment.

Shibganj police station OC Shahinuzzaman Shaheen said Firoza was slightly injured in the accident.

“The state minister and his family members who were in the car are safe,” he added.
