Here are four simple tips to help you choose the best mangoes

Update : 24 Jun 2024, 12:48 PM

Mangoes are highly nutritious and delicious, earning them the title "king of fruits." With ripe mangoes now available in the markets, those without their own mango trees must rely on these sources for the sweet fruit.

While ripe and sweet mangoes are often yellow or reddish, relying solely on colour can be misleading.

Market vendors will claim their mangoes are ripe and sweet, but without knowing how to identify them properly, you might end up with sour fruit.

To avoid this, here are four simple tips to help you choose the best mangoes:

Fragrance

The main condition for recognizing ripe and sweet mangoes is aroma. If the mango is sweet, a kind of aroma will come out. So, while buying mangoes, first take a mango close to your nose and smell it. If a mild aroma hits the nose, then you will understand that this mango will be sweet.

Softness

One of the characteristics of a ripe sweet mango is that it must be soft. So, while buying mangoes, you can press lightly on the mangoes. If you see that it will give with the pressure of your finger, then you can buy that mango because this will not be the case with raw or semi-ripe mangoes.

Dark yellow colour

Check the colour of the mango before buying it. If the colour of the mango is dark yellow, then understand that this mango is more likely to be sweet. If the size and colour are right, the mango will be delicious. However, green mangoes are not sweet. In that case, you can smell the smell and buy.

Spots on peels

While buying mangoes, you can check whether the peel is thin or not. Also, if you see any spots on the peel, then it is better not to buy that mango. This is because some parts inside the mangoes are likely to spoil. It may even taste bad to eat. So, it is better to avoid mangoes with spots on the skin while buying.
