The patrolling forest guards encountered a Royal Bengal Tiger in the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest.

The tiger was swimming across the river near Alibanda on Sunday afternoon.

The patrolling forest guards captured the video of the tiger on mobile phones.

Md Mahbub Hasan, range officer of Sharankhola Range of Sundarban East Division, said: “The forest guards, while on patrol, recorded the video of the tiger crossing the river on Sunday. However, tigers have never been seen in Alibanda tourism area before.”

Earlier, tourists traveling to Sundarbans saw two tigers swimming in Cuttack and Kochikhali on Saturday and Sunday.

Passengers of two ships named Sampan and Crown got this rare opportunity to see these two tigers.

Majharul Islam Kochi, joint general secretary of Tour Operators Association of Sundarbans and proprietor of Evergreen Tours, said that the Sundarbans were opened from September 1 after a three-month ban.

“On the first day, nine ships including seven from Khulna went to Sundarbans with 349 tourists. On September 2 (Saturday), Sampan passengers saw the tiger. On Sunday, the passengers of Crown also saw a tiger as well,” he added.
