A farmer and his pregnant wife were stabbed allegedly by a Jubo League leader over local polls-related rivalry in Kalia Upazila of Narail district on Saturday.

The injured were identified as Jannat Molla, 45 and his wife Shila Begum, 35, residents of Chanchuri village.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

According to witnesses and police, accused Tourut Molla, general secretary of Chanchuri union Jubo League, contested for the chairman post in the UP election held on November 28 and lost.

Jannat Molla campaigned for Tourut’s rival candidate in the election, and a conflict between them started during the polls.

As Jannat’s wife Shila went to save her husband, she was too attacked. The couple was severely injured in the attack.

Local people rushed them to Narail Sadar hospital and later they were transferred to KMCH as their condition deteriorated.
