Sheikh Aliullah Rubel, an activist of the Jubo League, was brutally hacked to death in the Malibag area due to a dispute over territorial control and business domination.
Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, the Commander of RAB-3, disclosed this information during a press conference at the RAB media center in the capital on Sunday.
According to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the victim, Rubel, lived with his family in a rented house in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur area. He was engaged in internet and egg wholesale business in the Shanti Bagh area and had recently attempted to enter the water business in the same locality.
His conflict with Shahjalal primarily stemmed from a territorial dominance dispute in the area.
In response to the heinous incident, RAB and the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted separate raids in the capital on Saturday, leading to the arrest of ten individuals involved in the crime.
Eight of the arrested were apprehended by the DB police, while RAB-3 arrested two suspects.
The individuals detained by the DB included Habib Ahsan, Md Alif Hossain, Md Rabiul Sani, Md Mehedi Hasan, Md Shahjalal, Md Rafiqul Islam, Noor Alam, and Md Suman Mir. Additionally, RAB apprehended Adnan Asif and Md Shakeel from Uttara East police station in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, A Dhaka court on Sunday placed seven people on four-day remand each in a case filed over the murder incident.
The seven remanded accused are- Alif Hossain, Rabiul Sani, Mehedi Hasan, Md Shahjalal, Rafiqul Islam, Noor Alam, and Sumon Mir.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohagh Uddin passed the order as police produced the seven before the court and pleaded to place them on seven-day remand.
The victim's wife, Tanjina Dewan, filed a case at Shahjahanpur police station as the plaintiff in this incident.
DMP Additional Commissioner of Intelligence, Harun Or Rashid, also informed about the arrest of eight people related to the same incident during a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday.
Based on preliminary investigations, the head of DMP's intelligence department stated that Nibir and Shahjalal had a dispute with the victim, Rubel, over territorial dominance in the area.
Subsequently, Nibir and Shahjalal conspired with the accused Habib Ahsan to carry out the murder.
As per the head of DMP's intelligence department, Nibir provided Tk4,000 to Habib to purchase local weapons acquired from Khilgaon market.
On the day before the incident, Shahjalal and Habib planned the murder of Rubel.
The victim was then stabbed and left on the scene with the weapons on Friday. He was later rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
