Jubo League leader allegedly beaten to death in Narayanganj

A Jubo League leader was allegedly beaten to death at Char bus stand area in Jampur Union of Sonargaon, Narayanganj Thursday evening.

The deceased is Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan, 40, assistant general secretary of Jubo League's Noagaon union unit.

Nazrul Islam was involved in the trade of rods and steel at Dhandhi market in the union.

According to Asma Akhter, the wife of the deceased, Nazrul was on his way to conduct business in the Bhulta Gauchia area of Rupganj. While taking an autorickshaw from the bus stand, an argument ensued between Nazrul and the autorickshaw driver, Zakir Hossain, and lineman Dayan, when the autorickshaw was waiting for more passengers. 

The dispute escalated, leading to a physical altercation where Nazrul was allegedly beaten with a stick by the lineman, and punched by the driver Zakir. Other autorickshaw drivers at the stand reportedly joined in beating Nazrul. After becoming unconscious, he was rescued and taken to the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor, she added.

Taltala Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Mujibur Rahman mentioned that the altercation occurred at the auto-stand, and Nazrul was rescued and taken to the nearby Araihazar Upazila Health Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries. The exact reason for the altercation is yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway. 

Araihazar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahsan Ullah said that the body was recovered from the upazila health complex, and there were visible injury marks on the deceased's body.
