Animal welfare organization People for Animal Welfare (PAW) Foundation has been working across Bangladesh since 2015 by providing medical treatment, performing rescue activities and raising public awareness about animal welfare.
Although floods started in the Sylhet region in April, different parts of the country have been inundated over the last few days. In this situation, millions of people, as well as domesticated and stray animals, have been facing calamities, read a media release issued on Monday.
Among them, stray animals are more neglected. PAW fears that unless immediate and effective measures are taken to protect them, then low-income families raising them in flood-prone areas will face severe short-term financial losses.
In this context, PAW urges that the Department of Livestock Services, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and all concerned authorities should rescue the domesticated and stray animals affected by the floods.
They can help by providing the animals with safe shelter, food, and necessary treatment while also taking effective and expeditious action on the burial of dead animals.
PAW believes that all animal-loving organizations, individuals and the media will extend a helping hand in this endeavor.
